How to travel to Thassos – Information About the Island

Thassos is the pride of Northern Greece, an accessible paradise for Greek and foreign tourists. HOW TO TRAVEL TO THASSOS

The island of Thassos is located in northern Greece, opposite the coasts of Eastern Macedonia. The length of its shores reaches 115 kilometers and its land surface at 378.84 square kilometers. It is separated from the city of Kavala by 18 nautical miles and just six miles from Keramoti and Kavala Airport.

TRAVEL WITH SHIP FROM KAVALA & KERAMOTI PORT

The island of Thassos is very easily accessible by boat from the city of Kavala. There are many daily itineraries with the following routes:

  • Keramoti – Limenas > Route Duration 40 minutes
  • Kavala – Skala Prinou > Route Duration 75 minutes

TRAVEL BY PLANE TO KAVALA 

Thassos does not have its own airport, but it does have Kavala (KVA) which is just 15 minutes from the port of Keramoti to travel directly to the island of Thassos. To go from the airport of Kavala, located in Chrysoupoli, to the port of Keramoti, the easiest and most convenient way is to take a taxi, you will find them waiting outside the airport.

INFORMATION ABOUT THASSOS

Administratively, Thassos belongs to the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, while it is included, together with the islets that surround it, in the homonymous Municipality and in the homonymous regional unit. The seat of the island is Limenas.

The island is wooded and timber is one of the main incomes of the Thasians, as well as marble mining, tourism, oil, olives, honey etc. Olives, pines, plane trees, firs, lindens, cedars, skulls, and other day and wild trees cover the small plains to the tops of the mountains. It has about 14,000 inhabitants. Activities favored in Thassos include water skiing and fishing, hiking and mountaineering, hunting, and bird watching.
